Em 1945, o General Dwight D. Eisenhower, Comandante Supremo das Forças Aliadas, previu que no futuro, a humanidade negaria que o genocídio dos judeus, durante a Segunda Guerra Mundial, tivesse ocorrido e que ele cairia no esquecimento. Eisenhower ordenou que fossem tiradas o maior numero de fotografias possíveis, para que o testemunho ficasse gravado e recordado, para sempre, a atrocidade da II Guerra Mundial.
